Step 2
Complete Training Course Certification Exam with a Department approved Provider

If you are taking your pre-license training course online, your certification exam must be monitored by a state-approved monitor.

A list of state-approved providers can be found here.

Step 3
Book your Licensing Exam

Once you’ve passed and completed your pre-license training course and certification exam, you can now schedule your licensing exam with the approved testing provider, PSI. To book visit PSI and create an account OR call (800) 733-9267.

Step 4
Take and Pass Your Licensing Exam

Exams will be in multiple-choice format, and will contain “pretest questions,” which are mixed in with the scored questions and are not identified.

The topics covered on each exam and number of questions devoted to each topic are listed in the Content Outline document (select New York, then select ‘NY - Insurance’).

The following table shows the total number of questions on each exam, the seat times, and passing percentages needed for each exam.

Step 6

To renew and/or maintain your insurance license, you will be required to complete a minimum number of continuing education (CE) credits.

All licensees (producers, brokers, consultants, adjuster) must complete 15 hours of CE credit every 2 years in the line in which the license is held.
